A H Hirsch 1974 16 Year Old Reserve is a classic 16 year old straight Bourbon whiskey distilled at the Pennco Distillery, Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania, originally named Shenk’s and later Bomberger’s. In 1998 and before this whiskey was bottled the distillery was closed, later to be purchased in a foreclosure and renamed as Michter’s. The distillery was built in 1840 and may have been at the time of its closure in 1989 the oldest working distillery in the USA.
This release of the 16 year old series has received widespread acclaim over the years, it is one of the most sought after bottling’s in Bourbon history. The bourbon’s story has been explored before with Chuck Cowdery writing a book on the subject called The Best Bourbon You’ll Never Taste.
Tasting notes: sweet oak, maple and spice.
