This much anticipated 2017 Ardbeg Twenty Something Committee Edition (23 year old) was created from a blend of ex-bourbon and Oloroso casks selected by Dr Bill Lumsden and comes hot off the heels of the Ardbeg Twenty One that was launched a year earlier in 2016. Virtually unattainable, this committee release was only made available via the Ardbeg website in Australia in early November 2017 for Ardbeg Committee members and immediately sold out.
The ‘Twenty Something’ is a rare peek into Ardbeg’s turbulent past containing whisky created within the retired iconic still which stands proud outside the Distillery today that commemorates the perilous days in the middle to late 1990’s when distilling at Ardbeg had diminished to almost nothing. Thanks to the dedication and vision of a group of whisky enthusiasts, a handful of casks were set aside and from their perseverance and belief in safe guarding the distilleries future, this iconic Ardbeg 23-year-old was born.
